Assuming you are not running jackd with the -R flag (ie you are running it 
without RT scheduling - this has some issues at present on 2.6 kernels(Like 
hard lockups))  you should try firing up qjackctl (also as root, may need to 
run "xhost +localhost" as your normal user first), then press the connect 
button and check that all the routing is correct.

My betting is that for some reason the outputs from rivendell have not been 
connected to the card.
