At this point, I'd say hold off about a week or so.  Rivendell in CVS is just 
emerging from a major overhaul of it's sound driver infrastructure.  I expect 
to roll a tarball/RPM release within the next few days.  When that comes out, 
AudioScience HPI and JACK will be the supported driver models.  While 
AudioScience adapters remain the recommended sound card for Rivendell, ALSA 
cards should also be usable via JACK.

In the meantime, if you're not planning to use an AudioScience card, you may 
be able to spend the time profitably getting familiarized with JACK.  Info
