A catch up post for Josiah!

Posted in thoughts at 6:25 pm by Melissa

I really need to do a better job of posting because there are so many stories that I keep forgetting. Josiah is growing up so fast and has so many “instersting” things to tell us. He still acts his age a lot, but is getting better at listening and is very polite. Sometimes he’ll just say, “I’m so proud of you Mom.” :) Very cute! His big interests right now are Buzz and Woody from Toy Story, anything from the Cars movie, and his friends. He loves to go to Market Mall to see his buddies! I am so blessed to have such an amazing group of friends here and so blessed that my kids do too!  Here are some pictures from this summer of my fun little boy!

Josiah is such a nice brother!  He does get annoyed that Abby is into his stuff already, but takes time to give her kisses and find her toys that she likes.  He even bought her a car (the King) for Christmas!

He has also been a big “helper” with all our house renovations.  Josiah and his buddy Avyn had lots of fun playing in the drywall dust and then helping their mommies paint.  They were so dirty and had so much fun!

Busy painting with Daddy!  This was his favorite job and we let him paint inside the closets.

Painting Abigail’s room.  I’ll do a post about the house later.  You can tell by the picture how proud he was of himself!

Random story time.  In these last few pictures Josiah is modeling his very cool painting clothes — a t-shirt and pull-up.  We have had a very long, long time of trying to potty train him with no success until recently.  We have tried charts, stickers, candies, chocolate, train-in-a-day methods, different kinds of pull-ups, little potty, big potty, sitting, standing, etc…  Argh!  I was starting to get frustrated because it seemed like he knew what to do, but was deciding not to.  Finally a few weeks ago we found the trick!  He really wanted the big Buzz Lightyear toy so I told him he better make some money.  He asked how to make money and so I put a paper cup on the bathroom counter and told him I’d pay him to pee or poop.  Bingo!  Light bulb moment!  He’s had a few accidents since, but really has done amazing.  He bought Buzz off kijiji (I know.  I have an addiction, but this way he didn’t have to save until he was a teenager! lol!) and is VERY proud of himself!  He took his cup full of change to the lady selling Buzz and she was proud of him too and even gave him a second little Buzz for free when he told her he got money for going potty.   Yes.  I paid him to potty train.  Sounds expensive, but so are diapers!

My cutie at a summer picnic!  (This is where he would correct me and say “No Mom, I’m handsome!”

He wore this “cowboy hat” and his “Robert boots” every day in the summer!

Josiah loved playing in the lake up at Heritage.  It was freezing cold that weekend and we all wore jackets the entire time.  Didn’t stop the kids though!

My handsome boys!  Josiah tells me that when he is big like Daddy he will be bigger than Daddy.

We were able to go down to the farm to visit “Brown Grandma” and “Brown Grandpa” during harvest.  Josiah spent a few hours every day out on the combine and Grandma bought him his own little toy combine.  He came back to Saskatoon and explained to all his friends how the combine worked.

I was reading through my facebook status updates and found a bunch of Josiah moments that made me smile.  Decided to put them here so I don’t forget :) .

Melissa Orr enjoys that Josiah has insisted on everyone calling him “Buzz Lightyear” for the last three days. He even pokes his own chest and says “to infinity and beyond!”.

Melissa Orr was kinda excited when Josiah told me “don’t call me Buzz anymore” until he finished with “I am Andy”.

Melissa Orr is tired of Josiah calling himself “Andy” and not listening to me because his name is Andy now. I liked it better when he was Buzz Lightyear! Funny kid!

Melissa Orr Josiah just told me that Abby turned him back into Josiah. No more Andy! Yay!

Melissa Orr is doing laundry and watching Mary Poppins with Abby and a pirate who is wearing an eyepatch, backwards clothes, and is singing “hickry, dickry, duck”. I love my kids!

Melissa Orr “Wow. God made Lightening McQueen’s eyes blue just like mine!” — Josiah

Melissa Orr watched a movie with three toddlers this morning. One called it “pokie-o”, another “pee-o-co”, and the third said he was watching “hokey-dokey-o”!

Melissa Orr is happy that Josiah had his last opthamologist appointment today and everything looked great!

Abby’s catch up post continued…..

Posted in thoughts at 9:32 pm by Melissa

So some of my motivation to start blogging again is that Robert bought me a new laptop for Christmas. I am VERY spoiled! It is exciting to get on the computer and not have to keep re-starting it so it will keep working. It was so slow that blogging was painful. Still need to get used to this one. My blog set-up is different and it wouldn’t let me add any more pics to my last post so I’ll break it up a bit!

Here she is enjoying one of our many summer picnics! We had lots of fun with our Mommy group called Village Time and had extra picnics with Linaya and Gianna!

This is Abby and I the day she turned 9 months old. Robert was having fun playing with some photography equipment.

Here is Abby at family camp. Her first camping experience was a freezing cold one, but she had lots of fun playing in the tent with her big brother.

Girl weekend! The weekend of my 30th birthday some friends I went to university with planned a girl weekend. We stayed at April’s house and enjoyed an awesome day on the beach at Waskesiu. Abby was spoiled rotten by all the girls!

She also got another visit with Uncle Stephen in September. This is Abby with her cousin Gianna.

Must have a bean picture to show how well she feeds herself! My independent girls likes to do things herself and she hates bibs! Not a fan of baby food either. This is unfortunate as she is almost a year old and still has no teeth!

In October I took a week long physical therapy continuing education course in Regina. The course was excellent and Abby had her first experience of being away from Mom during the day. Robert came with me for the first few days to watch the kids, but then had to come back to Saskatoon with Josiah when the radio station had technical difficulties. I was very blessed to have Janice (in the pic) and Robert’s sister May jump in to take care of Abby for me!

11 months! Now that we have moved upstairs Abby has figured out that she can climb them. She is getting much better at it, but still has the common sense of a baby. Seemed appropriate to take her 11 month pics on the stairs since that is where she spent all her time that week!

Catch up post for Abigail!

Posted in thoughts at 8:14 pm by Melissa

Since my last post on Abby was her 4, 5, and 6 month pictures it looks like she is a typical second child who doesn’t have any pictures! I promise this is not the case! I may not have quite as many as I took of Josiah, but with a digital camera always with me, there are still several hundred. Here are some pictures to catch everyone up on how our little girl is growing.

A random post for Allison!

Posted in thoughts at 7:41 pm by Melissa

This post is dedicated to my friend Allison who is the most recent person to harass me about not blogging anymore. It has been a crazy last few months, and if I can ever get caught up on blogging I’ll tell you all about them! Enough with the excuses. Here is a random post about Josiah.

A few days ago Josiah was eating cheerios, playing with his cars, and was carrying around the tire changing car (he calls “pit crew”). I had explained to him that “pit crew” changes tires for the other cars and then I ran upstairs to grab some laundry. This is what I found when I came downstairs! Love it!

He is very creative and also has a wisdom that only children have. Last week we were at McDonalds in Regina and there was a little kid throwing a huge temper tantrum. The other kid was yelling and hitting his very young looking mother. She looked exasperated and just kept getting after him. Josiah turned to me and said, “he’s not talking nice to his Mom”. “That’s not good. He needs to say sorry.” Robert asked him, “What does that little boy need?”. We were expecting him to say “time out”, but instead he said, “That little boy needs some snuggles”. I think he was probably right. A good lesson to all of us to give our kids more snuggles. :)
