New baby update

Posted in thoughts at 10:19 pm by Melissa

I haven’t really written much about this pregnancy because it has seemed to last for years already and we still have almost 3 months to go.  At the beginning of the pregnancy I was just sick all the time so my doctor took me off work at about the 3 month mark.  That was a good decision because I have been able to take care of Josiah and I, but not much else.  I’m just not very good at pregnant!  We have had 3 ultrasounds for various reasons (no I don’t know if it’s a boy or girl) and even though I’m not healthy, the baby is and we are very thankful for that!  Last week’s ultrasound showed that baby is already 3 pounds which is in the 95th percentile.  I grow them big!

This last couple of weeks I have started to get a lot of swelling and my blood pressure has been climbing.  We went and met an obstetrician last Wed at the hospital and she did a lot of tests.  So far my bloodwork and ultrasounds look good, but they are keeping a close eye on us.  Instead of monthly visits to my family doctor I now get weekly visits with the specialist.  I also get to monitor my blood pressure at home and go to the hospital to get checked everytime it reaches a certain point.  Last night we were there from 10:30pm to 3:30am.  We are very thankful for the Canadian health care system, for friends who help with Josiah, and that once again the bloodwork was okay and they didn’t admit me to the hospital.

The doctors I’ve seen said that there isn’t really anything different I can be doing to control the blood pressure.  They may be able to start me on some meds if it gets worse. If I start to have bad results on the bloodwork then it is time to take the baby out.  I’m 28 weeks 2 days so we don’t like that idea right now.  Please pray that my health stays good so baby can stay put until at least the new year.  Thanks to everyone for the prayers and encouragement!

Catch up time again!

I don’t know how I manage to get so far behind with blogging when I am home so much of the time!  Somehow I have managed to stay very busy for not being at work and it has been so much fun to watch Josiah learn new things! First is just a fun picture of the kids with Grandma!  This was taken at the beginning of October.

We went to Regina for Thanksgiving weekend and attended the Lectureship at WCC.  As usual we stayed with our friend Janice and Josiah had so much fun playing in the snow!  They made a very nice snowman and now whenever Josiah sees snow he asks to go to Janice’s house to make another one.

In the middle of October we went to the pumpkin maze with some moms and tots (a group we call Village Time).  The kids had fun running around and trying to get lost.  Josiah ran everywhere and Linaya carried her baby in the sling Grandma made for her birthday.

When Josiah is “on a mission” to do something he gets a determined look on his face, swings one arm, and runs!

He also learned how to put on the cheese!

This was our attempt at a fun group shot, but obviously everyone wasn’t having fun!

Patience woke up after the group shot but was ready to pose for the camera anyway.

On October 28th my sister had a baby girl named Gianna Pearl.  She is so sweet and we have been having fun getting to know her.  Grandma was able to come up for about a week to help them get settled and then Grandpa came for a visit as well.

One day we went to Red Lobster for lunch with Grandma and the kids got to touch a lobster.  Josiah loves these pictures and says “more monster”.

Grandma was also in Saskatoon for Halloween and got to enjoy seeing the kids in their costumes.  We went trick-or-treating in the mall in the afternoon and then Josiah got to go with Xavier, Niles, and Avyn.

Here is Avyn being helpful and pushing Josiah in the stroller.  Looks a little backwards to me!

Off to trick-or-treat!  I wasn’t feeling up to going with them so Robert and Diane took the kids.  I told Josiah to say thank-you at every house.  I guess he took me seriously because he would go up to the door with the kids, say “thank-you” and run away before they could give him candy.  Maybe he’ll see the point more next year.  He had a lot of fun and cried when it was time to quit.

Here is a cute kid that came to Di’s house while they were out.  Our pretty little skunk, Imogen!

In Josiah’s spare time he has also learned from his big cousins to be a Rock Star!  The first day he tried it he just loved the drums.  The second time all he needed was the mic.  He watched the tv so closely that it looked like he was reading the words.  I’ll try to post a video later because it was very cute!  The group shot was at Emma’s birthday party.

This last month Josiah has developed a passion for learning letters and for singing.  He knows most of his capital letters now and loves to play with his fridge magnets.  He also sings a couple words to a few different songs and likes to sing them on the phone for people.  I think he’s a little show off!  Can’t wait to see what he comes up with to get attention when his little brother or sister arrives!
